Aug. 28 we visited Deadwood, South Dakota.
We stayed at Steel Wheel Campground a few miles out of town.
We checked out the downtown & did a little gambling... of course!
Next day we took a ride to Mt. Rushmore. But on the way we stopped at the Christmas store.
I could have spent hours in here! But I was only here for a few minutes... really!
And a couple more minutes to have a pic with the woolly mammoth. Who wouldn't? :)
Then we were here!
We were here in 2003 when we flew to South Dakota to buy our first Jeep Wrangler but it is still very cool to see.
The first flag you see is California!
Only 100 years before I was born.
We also took a ridethrough Sturgis.
I'm glad all the bikes aren't here. I know it's supposed to be really cool when they are but it's not my idea of a good time. They make me very uncomfortable. I guess I'm just a chicken!
I figure if Larry the Cable Guy was here I should be too!
And who can you go thru South Dakota without visiting Wall Drug?
Not me! Stopped for lunch & a little shopping.
And had to see the Jackalope!
Why wasn't anybody in the picture? I can't believe Donald wasn't in the saddle!
Right across from Wall is the Badlands loop.
Some amazing landscapes.
I can see why Sundance and Butch hid out from the law here.

I know I wouldn't go in after them.
As a matter of fact, Richie and I are sitting in the car taking pictures of these guys taking pictures. :)
It was only about 108 that day! Donald still wandered out to the edge to take pics.
I'm not sure why we think we need to take a picture next to these big, fake, animals... but we do.
This one was along the road at a little prairie dog town where you can feed them. This guy wanted some food.
But Donald just took his picture instead.
Poor little guy. He looks starved.... NOT!
We got to Sioux Falls on on Wed. Aug. 31.
Familiar site??? Water leak somewhere.
Decided to watch it for a while to see where it was coming from. So on Sept. 1, Rich & Tammy took a ride to Nebraska. He has roots there and some family to see.
Donald and I went to the Dakota Post where we signed up for mail forwarding and got our new address. It is..
3916 N. Potsdam Ave. Sioux Falls, SD 57104
We went from there to the DMV with our passports, a 1099 with our SS # on it, and our receipt from the campground we are staying in with the new address. It was the shortest easiest visit to the DMV I have ever made.
You are now looking at official South Dakotans!
I have had a California driver license for 49 years. I have to admit it was really hard to give it up. :(
I do know that after living in Watsonville for 65 years, you might be able to take the girl out of California but you're never gonna get California completely out of the girl!
The Falls downtown are pretty cool!
Next morning, after some searching & testing, Donald found & fixed the leak. It was just a copper line going into the aqua-hot. He had to get into the storage bin, on top of the aqua-hot where it was a little warm to say the least but problem solved.
Tammy was so grateful she took us out for dinner to the Texas Roadhouse. She said it's good to travel with your mechanic. Maybe he can fix something again tomorrow. :)
Donald did want to know why Richie needed all these bbq brushes???
OK, so they all said I only write things about them and I needed to tell the story of how this light pole...
and this bike rack had a slight connection. But, it is my blog and I will write what I want. Enough said!
Out of South Dakota. Have to be back in 5 years to renew our licenses. We'll see.
