Back in the USA / Montana & North Dakota

We crossed the border into Montana today.
261 miles of pretty much nothing to our next stop in Shelby.

There was so much smoke in the air the sun was red & the sky was brown.
While we were there for 2 days so we golfed at Maria's Valley Golf Club just down the road.
It was probably about a $25.00 course for $49.00.
But I guess when you are the only game in town....

It was right along the river.   Probably would have been a lot prettier if the sky was clear.
From here we drove another 211 miles seeing pretty much sky & hay.  I guess that's why they call Montana "Big Sky Country".   There is nothing to block the horizon.
At least the sky is blue today!
Not sure what's in these silos but they look pretty shiny & new.
Not much traffic.....
Except for one of these every once in awhile.
We got to Conttonwood RV park in Glasgow, Mt.  I guess that RV parks are next to Hiways or trains because the property is cheap.  This one was really noisy.
I've never seen so many oil containers.
But the wind blew so hard all night we really didn't hear it much. It was quite stormy & rainy.
We got into North Dakota on Sunday the 23rd.
Just outside of Medora we saw this sign on the hill.
The only thing I could see at this exit was one farm.  I guess they got to make there home into a town.  ??
Our next stop was Medora, North Dakota.

We took a ride through Teddy Roosevelt National Monument Park.

Got a few pictures of the wildlife.  Lot's of little prairie dogs.
A few wild horses.

Some turkeys.

Of course some Buffalo.

Some beautiful landscapes.
But, when we came back around the loop in the park to prairie dog town there wasn't any in sight.
Just Wiley Coyote here!   No wonder the little guys all went home.
On Monday we played golf at the Bully Pulpit Golf Course.
It is just down the street from the Teddy R. Park so you can guess where it got it's name.  Golf Digest Magazine rates it one of the top 100 courses in the nation.  It is pretty cool!
It has some really spectacular views!

You think???
Too Bad we had to spoil it with golf.  :(

Ok... Tammy will be mad if I don't tell you that she played pretty well.  Wish I could say the same. :(
I better also mention that she won the last $2 poker tourney that we had.  :)
She even wanted to protect us from this falling rock!  :)
Oh, did that sign say stay out?  Hmmm.. she's starting to be more like Donald everyday.
It was a really beautiful course and we couldn't have had better weather!

The next night we went to the Medora Musical.  We were here the last time we came thru with Rich & Tammy a couple of years ago.
But little did I know that they had secretly joined the production.
Damn look at those guys dance!
Last time these guys were part of the show.  This year you could just see them way down the hill.
No Dale... you cannot shoot him!
The amphitheater is cut into the mountain and holds about 3000 seats.

At one point they bring up all the kids in the audience for a picture.  Some of the dancers in the troop said they came up on the stage as kids & now they are in the play.  I thought that was pretty cool.

At the end of the night they put this light show on the mountain... loved it!
Maybe I'll be back for the 75th anniversary!  If only.
We wondered through the little stores in Medora and this sign  reminded me of Janet Brown... so I took a picture of it.  :)
Well... are you ready for it?
Another chapter in what I now call the
 "Rich & Tammy's Motorhome Saga".
Before we left Medora some phone calls were made about the coolant still disappearing and making the light on the dash flash.  So here we are in Dickinson just 36 miles from Medora.  We are at the North Park RV and the Staads are at the Astoria Hotel while the RV is in the shop.  UNBELIEVABLE!
Richie's new best friend Sam took it all apart & changed some parts that he thought was leaking (don't ask me what).

This must be the culprit.
This time it is quite an ordeal.

Tammy had to empty out her closet so they could get to the motor.  UGH!
OK ... this is really fixed now right? Well, that's what they say.
Hopefully that will be the last chapter..We'll see!
While we were here we figured we might as well take a ride down the road to Regent, SD on the Enchanted Hiway.  Gary Greff was metal sculptor and  retired school teacher.  He felt his town of Regent was dying and he had to do something  about it.
His master plan was to create ten giant sculptures along the Regency-Gladstone Road to get people to come to the town.  Seven have been completed.  The world's larges Grasshopper went up in 1999.
Ride-em Cowboy! (or should I say Ride-em ex- UPS driver?)
Deer Crossing went up in 2002. You can barely see Rich & Tammy.
My favorite was the Fisherman's Dream, made in 2007 and was the last one & most complicated @ 70' tall.  You can barely tell that's me next to the kelp in front.
There's the Pheasant Covey. I left the truck in the picture to give an idea of how big these are.  They say that Gary still has dreams to add a water park, restaurant and amphitheater.  Not too sure how well this is working to bring people down the I-94 instead of the I-90.
Especially since this is pretty much what you see coming down the road & not much other traffic.  But, it was fun to see.   Good luck Gary Greff!
This may look a little redundant to you seeing the back-end of these guys but I have to tell you that I want this picture in front of me at all times. It just makes me excited to see them on the road again!  Yay!
Off we go down some more long, straight, very smokey roads.
Stopped at this little place for lunch.  I have to say these guys have all been more than agreeable to my affliction to stopping en-route for lunch and a break.  :)  Much appreciated!!
And what's better than being able to shop while you have lunch?
Then a pause for pictures at this little park.

She loves those horses!  Real or not!
And soon we were out of North Dakota.
